*Iowa Telecom, headquartered in Newton, Iowa, serves the Washington area. To obtain service, call

1-877-905-4692. They will need to know the following:

  1. Exactly where you live (your 911 address). This is especially important in rural areas.

  2. A number where you can be reached. This is so if there are questions or a problem arises, you can be reached.

  3. Billing is done on a monthly basis. Payments can be made by mail, or dropped off at Hy-Vee or the Iowa Telecom Office at 217 E. 2nd.

  4. Phone books are available at the Chamber of Commerce or by calling 1-800-888-8448.

Water Service/Garbage & Recycling


Sign up at the *City Hall, http://www.washingtoniowa.net/

(319/653-6584). If you are buying a home, you only need to give your name and address. If you rent, a $75 deposit will be required. This deposit is refundable if you become a homeowner (after paying the final bill at the previous residence) or when you move out of town (you will need to pay the final bill at the previous residence and then the deposit will be mailed to you). Request for service should be made in person. At the same time, you can also find out which day the garbage and recycling collection occurs.


Gas & Electric



*Alliant Energy provides gas & electric service to Washington residents. Request for service must be made by phone to a 24-hour number (1-800-822-4348). A deposit may be required. All deposits are refundable, with interest, after one year of timely payments of your utility bill.


Internet Services


*Iowa Telecom provides internet services (including DSL) to our area,  877-904-4692.  Lisco provides internet services, 319-653-2119.  *Mediacom provides high speed internet services to our area,


Cloud Burst 9 provides internet services to our area.

Public Library

Cable/ Satellite Television




(1-800-798-8014) furnishes cable TV for the Washington community. Basic service includes 15 channels and the expanded basic service includes 15 additional channels.

Voter Registration



Registration forms are available at the Auditor's office at the courthouse,

212 W. Main St.

(319/653-7715). Mail in forms are also available. Washington is divided into 4 wards and you should ask which ward you live in as well as the polling location for your ward. They will need to know your social security number, birthday, name, & address.


Driver's Licenses



Driver's licenses are issued daily (8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) at the Washington Country Treasurer's Office. Customers can call

Post Office



The U.S. Post Office,

(319/653-2385) provides a simple change of address card that you need to fill out and sign to ensure proper mail service.
